Frequently Asked Questions

Here's what we usually get asked

Do you teach in-person or only online?

In person. Yes! I currently have some openings for private students in the Central Coast & Newcastle Australia. Please contact me through this portal to book a free 15-minute phone call.
Online one-on-ones. Yes, this and my online self-paced course are my main methods for teaching. You can come to me for a one-off private or a regular private class for a specific goal. Please note, regular bookings are limited and a free 15-minute consult is preferable to see if I can help you.

What will we talk about in the phone call?

If after answering the survey questions, you qualify as a suitable Pilax client, we will have a further phone call where we'll ask you a bit about your history, see if you have further questions and from there and: you will have to option to make a booking straight away. If I don't think this is a good idea for you, I will offer further suggestions.

How soon can I expect to see results?

All Pilates classes, regardless of whether they are mine or others should help any student with:

Core engagement

Balance

Injury prevention

Overall co-ordination and strength.

Pilax is designed to do this in a gentle manner, aiming to prevent injury and specifically muscle tears and spasms. I have met students who took classes that caused major injuries to them. Pilates should never do this- unless you are doing the exercise very wrong or holding it longer than your instructor suggested. My classes motto is "Play is safe"
Results are entirely dependent on how often you take a class, what your health is like at present and if you already have injuries. Most students start to see the beginning of results within 3 months if taking classes even once a week. Even 5-minute classes every day can show results. Consistency is key.

Will I have to commit to regular classes?

No is the short answer. I work with you and together we work out what is best for you. I also understand that life happens so I only book 3 weeks out at a time at the most. But if you want to secure a time, pre-booking is key.

Do you do class packages? Will I have to risk spending a lot?

No. Most of my clients are busy people who often have to change times or skip a week. This is why I created my online classes. For those who can commit to regular classes, I don't book more than three weeks out. Payment secures a booking. This keeps everyone happy.

For students who are members of my online program, there is a regular discount. Regular clients who are not part of my online class who show up consistently, also receive a discount after coming to a certain number of classes. After each students first class, the second class onwards moves to a lower price anyway.

What about refunds for privates I've already paid for?

Yes, refunds are offered for privates both in person and online if you request one within 7 days of a class. If it's less than 7 days, I offer a change of time/date or to forward the class by a week. For extenuating circumstances, this will be discussed on a case-by-case basis.

What about the online course?

For online course, since it is time-based purchase, refunds are not offered as you have the entire 3/6/12 months to use the course. Extensions can be offered on time for extenuating circumstances.

What is different between you and a regular Mat Pilates teacher? Can't I just go to Youtube for free?

I'm funnier. But in all seriousness, in taking a one-on-one private with me, you are getting personal attention and exercises appropriate for you. If you are considering Youtube against my online program: While hopefully all Mat Pilates are based on strong foundational technique, every teacher's style is different. I've taken a lot of Mat classes in my time and I didn't like all my teachers. I liked the slow- medium paced, caring, methodical ones that didn't give too much jargon but gave enough information so I could execute my exercises to the best of my ability. I also liked teachers that didn't stay on the same three exercises throughout class and leave me in pain. A lot of Pilates teachers are really focused on 'feeling the burn'. That is not me. You may feel something, especially if you have not exercised much; but you should not leave feeling exhausted. If 'the burn' is what you want, I wont be the right teacher for you. Youtube? Yes, you could go there. By all means, feel free to. There are many great resources on there. I offer personalisation and above all else, I offer honesty. If I dont know something, I have zero problem telling you I don't and that I will get back to you (if taking in person or one-on-one classes).

MEET THE FOUNDER

Hey, I'm Natania

Former country-relocator, always out to learn about new cultures and dance, only stopped by the pandemic and subsequently covid; I began learning Pilates in 2015 while dancing full-time. Initially using it only to make up class hours, I took it while exhausted or barely awake and discovered how useful it could be even when worn out. Fast forward to studying with Balanced Body Pilates in 2019/2020, I completed my Mat certificate and began teaching in a pandemic environment, immediately applying all my learnings about exhaustion while moving, dance training and creation in limited spaces, like many other creatives I knew. I had clients who were burnt out, out of fitness due to lack of gym access and full of small injuries that were starting to add up. From there I developed Pilax, integrating relaxation techniques and sticking to the original Joseph Pilates methods of working the body all over and not just one spot. I soon began applying my methods outside the laptop walls in-person. Once I caught covid myself and developed ongoing fatigue, I applied further learning from my former physio sessions as a dancer, careful experimentation and research into a gentler format, initially only designed for myself. I added this into my routines for anyone with CFS and went on to form RiseUp as an addition to Pilax Pilates.
